Happy summer, everyone! We have a lot of updates on Hannah, as she's changing every day now and doing more and more exciting things :) Most importantly, she is now sleeping SO much better. As you probably know, she went through some difficult times with sleeping. Basically, she slept pretty well when she was swaddled, but once she started breaking out of her swaddle and she outgrew it, she had a lot of difficulty sleeping. She would startle herself and wake up, then knock the pacifier out, etc....it was a big cycle that wasn't fun for anyone. The only place she'd sleep is a car seat. Yes--she slept in her car seat for a whole month. But just last week, she suddenly was able to take a nap in the crib, and then sleep at night in the crib! She falls asleep pretty quickly--only a few minutes of fussing. And she stays asleep anywhere between 3-5 hours now consistently. It's been a great relief to us. Also, she's now rolling both ways, although stomach to back is still pretty rare. She even laughed out loud for the first time last week, and can "drink" (sort of...we're working on it at least) from a cup. Lots of changes to report! Here are some pictures of the last couple of weeks.

Here's me reading the morning paper...I even get my own section to crumple up!
I love my "new" stroller from Aunt Teresa and Uncle Jeff!
And...I love biting my toes :)
My dog is still my favorite toy!
Showing off my cute baby arms in my tank top. Everyone seems to like my wrist rolls :)
I can roll and put in my own pacifier (sometimes)!

HI Julia! Oh my gosh...the sleeping issues sound IDENTICAL to what we went through with Kennedy when she was a baby. Everything you said from the startling and waking herself up to the pacifier falling out and waking up was true for Kennedy. Fortunately, Keaton didn't like being swaddled so we didn't have that transition to make this time. It's SOOO hard, I totally feel for you. Glad she is taking it easier on you now though...she looks like such a happy little girl! So nice to hear that you all are doing great!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had known you had so many sleeping issues--we could have helped. We actually swaddled Lucy until she was 6 or 7 months old--the Miracle Blanket was the only thing she wouldn't break out of. Lucy still isn't a great sleeper--let me know if you need any more "tricks." I don't have answers, but we've tried just about everything to get Lucy to sleep better. If you have time, the Weisbluth book "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" came well recommended to us, and it was worth it. We use it a lot now, with modifications.
ReplyDeleteA friend suggested laying a ton of pacifiers in the bed so that when they spit it out they can grab others that are nearby, especially after they are no longer swaddled.
If you want to keep swaddling, the Miracle Blanket literally WAS a dream come true.
She is adorable!
